Senior Electronic Engineer

Job Location: Melbourne, Victoria

Our client is hiring a Senior Electronics Engineer as part of a planned succession strategy for their long-time engineering lead. This role is ideal for someone technically grounded, emotionally intelligent, and ready to take on broader leadership responsibilities.

You’ll lead the electronics function, contribute to multidisciplinary planning, and help shape the company’s engineering culture as it enters a new phase of growth.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead the electronics team across a growing portfolio of embedded and mechatronic products

  • Drive project planning, hardware architecture, and structured product delivery within a waterfall-style framework

  • Mentor junior and mid-level engineers, offering both technical guidance and soft-skill development

  • Collaborate with software, mechanical, and systems teams to ensure cross-discipline cohesion

  • Influence long-term technical strategy as part of a broader engineering leadership group

  • Over time, transition into a broader engineering manager role if desired

What We’re Looking For

Required:

  • Deep experience in embedded electronics, including power systems, signal integrity, EMC, microcontrollers, and low-level firmware

  • Strong working knowledge of structured development (e.g., waterfall, V-models)

  • Ability to architect systems, own delivery plans, and coordinate effectively with other engineering teams

  • High emotional intelligence, you can build trust, mentor juniors, and work well with a range of personalities

  • Proven experience leading or mentoring teams

  • Comfortable stepping into cross-functional leadership over time

The Backstory: Why This Role Matters

The outgoing software & electronics lead was a strong technical contributor and thoughtful mentor, but ultimately stepped back from project planning and coordination responsibilities. This creates an opportunity to bring in a more structured leader, someone confident in systems planning and comfortable shaping cross-functional delivery.

This is a foundational hire tied directly to our client’s long-term succession plan,  someone who can grow with the company and influence how things are built and delivered going forward.

Why Join Them

  • Long runway, real ownership – This is a leadership track with clear progression, not just a senior dev role

  • Engineering-led culture – No fluff, just well-planned, well-executed product development

  • Meaningful product impact – The work you do will shape real-world systems

  • Backed by experience – Join a team of capable engineers with the space to build the right way
